Open Day

Saturday 24th of October

On this day visitors will be free to visit the medical centre and discover the services available within the building. Clowns will keep the kids occupied while you check out the facilities.

We will be holding a sausage sizzle to raise money for the Breast Cancer Awareness Pink Ribbon Day Appeal. For $2 you will be able to enjoy both a sizzling sausage and the knowledge that you have helped raise funds for this important cause. Please note that the sausages will be halal. Food and drink will also be available for purchase at our cafe, Espresso Plus.

For those who take part in our mystery tour there is a chance to win a Wii and Wii Fit.

Each of the practices will be open and staff will be conducting tours throughout the business, explaining the services that are available and making appointments.

Free blood pressure testing, drug, hearing, vision and gait (walking) screening tests will also be available.

A number of businesses will have discounts for services undertaken or booked on the day.

A number of health-related presentations will take place in our conference centre. A timetable of sessions will be provided closer to the date.

Win a pair of Nike runners by visiting Physiofirst

Everyone who visits Physiofirst will be able to take a raffle ticket to win a spare of Nike runners. The raffle for the runners will be drawn on the day (Saturday 24th of October) at 1pm in the reception area of the physiotherapy practice. All entrants will be notified of the results via email. In addition the winner will be advertised on this website on Tuesday 26th of October.

Treasure Hunt

In your medical centre show bag you will find a treasure map. As you visit each of the businesses make sure you get them to stamp your treasure map. Once you have all ten stamps, write your contact details on the form.
Drop your completed entry form in the entry box located outside the centre management office at the rear of the ground floor foyer.
First prize: Wii console with Wii Fit game and balance board
Second Prize: 6 month membership to our gymnasium
Third prize: 6 month membership to our gymnasium
The winners will be drawn randomly from all entries on Monday 26th of October and notified by telephone that day. The details of the winners will be available on this website on Tuesday October 27th 2009.

Health Assessments

A number of our health professionals will be offering free screening tests and assessments at our Open Day.
These will include:

  • Quality Pharmacy: qualified staff at the pharamcy will offer free blood pressure screening
  • Acuity Eyecare: the health professionals at Acuity will offer free vision screening tests
  • Willandra Medical Clinic: will offer free hearing screening tests
  • Epping General and Sports Podiatry: will offer free gait (walking) assessments.
  • FIT Epping: will offer free fitness assessments for all those who want to know how fit they really are.

Free Fitness Classes

FIT Epping are offering two free fitness classes on the day.

So bring your workout gear along and join in the fun. Take that first step towards shaping the body you want.

11:30am Bodyattack
Bodyattack is a high-energy interval training class combining athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilization exercises. A simple, high-intensity group exercise-to-music class BODYATTACK is fully optioned to cater for all fitness levels. You’ll experience high-energy sports training moves for cardiovascular fitness, along with upper and lower body conditioning exercises.

1:00pm Tummy Butt and Thighs
TBT is a low impact class that targets the Tummy, Butt & Thighs. A simple class to follow for all fitness levels, its objective is to firm, tone and shape your most troublesome spots. Discover new ways of training these muscle groups and feel them work like they've never been worked before.


Seminars

There will be six presentations on the day in our conference centre on the second floor.

10:00am Understanding Mammograms
Dr Jacquie Pearce (radiologist MIA Radiology) will talk about the experience of having a mammogram.
Her talk will include:

  • a discussion on who should have a mammogram
  • an explanation of the different types of mammograms
  • a step by step account of what happens when you have a mammogram
  • a discussion of the benefits and risks of having a mammogram

10:30am Low Back Pain
Mr Dale Turner (physiotherapist Physiofirst) will be presenting a session on the causes and management of low back pain from a physiotherapy perspective.
His talk will include:

  • a brief explanation of the anatomy of the lower back
  • an explanation of the common causes of low back pain
  • a discussion of the ways that physiotherapists can help alleviate low back pain

11:00am Treating Breast Cancer
Dr Michael Ng (radiation oncologist Radiation Oncology Victoria) will discuss the management of breast cancer.
His talk will include:

  • an overview of the treatment options for breast cancer
  • an explanation of the risks and benefits of breast cancer treatment
  • a step by step account of what happens when you have radiotherapy for breast cancer

11:30 pm A Lifetime of Vision
Mr Steve Dinh and Ms Megan Loft (optometrists Acuity Eyecare) will give an overview on a number of different eye ailments that occur during various stages of a person's life.
These will include:

  • turned eye
  • glaucoma
  • diabetes-related eye conditions
  • cataracts

12:00pm Your Kids and Immunization
Ms Julie Wood (registered nurse Willandra Medical Clinic) will be talking about routine childhood immunizations.
Her talk will include:

  • an explanation of what immunization is and why it is important
  • an overview of why we need to be immunized
  • a list of the routine childhood immunizations and their common side effects

1:00pm Physiotherapy and Cancer Recovery
Ms Melissa Conlin (physiotherapist Physiofirst) will give a presentation on the role that physiotherapy can play in recovering from cancer.


 

Parking / Amenities

Car parking:
Free car parking will be available on the day both at the front and rear of the building as well as in our multi-storey car park. Our security guards will be patrolling the car parking areas to ensure that all cars are parked safely and deter thieves.

Amenities:
The medical centre has public toilets on each floor.
There is a parents’ room on the first floor.
There is both a public telephone and a taxi phone located at the rear of the medical centre foyer on the ground floor.
